A Well-Engineered Strategy

Dr Kuno Jung

The second eLearning Africa Conference 2007 in Nairobi, Kenya, can be seen at as the breakthrough for Eduvision. In Nairobi, the company was able to present its software for educational purposes to an expert audience. Thereafter, international institutions and governments approved the delivery of the technology necessary to initiate the first pilot projects. At eLearning Africa 2008, Jung went a step further and outlined his company’s educational vision in a presentation entitled “The Lost Footage of Back to the Future Part II: The Classrooms in 2015”. In the following, he speaks about Eduvision’s overall strategy, and the opportunities eLearning Africa 2008 offered his firm in this respect.

QUA primary focus at Eduvision is the incorporation and adaptation of existing school curriculum content to new technology platforms. In furtherance of this effort, Eduvision develops systems to digitise and convert content, tools for students and teachers to access and manipulate that content as well as content-distribution systems that reach the most remote areas, even when there is no internet connection. Furthermore, with the company’s local partners, Eduvision wants to make sure that all of this is properly installed and serviced over the years.

”At eLearning Africa, we were able to present the importance of integrated and tailor-made approaches. These include many components, from appropriate hardware to intuitive software and, maybe most importantly, support services. Only if all the parts are working together in an optimal way and adapted to the local conditions can the introduction of modern technology be successful in the long term”, Jung explained. “Another important component is the provision of proper consulting. As all of us are in a way breaking new ground, ground in different geographical and cultural settings no less, it is of the greatest importance that the people setting up these systems can assist the local authorities in selecting appropriate systems and components. Only this can ensure the successful introduction and implementation of ICT-related initiatives”, he continued.

Eduvision at eLA 2008

Shortly before the commencement of this year’s eLearning Africa Dr. Kuno Jung was appointed Eduvision’s new chief executive officer, succeeding Karim Toledano, the firm’s founding CEO. After the event, Kuno noted that he thoroughly enjoyed his experience at eLA. He said he was particularly encouraged to see the amount of interest people have in ICT-based education on the Continent and that the conference obviously provides the sector with a unique opportunity to share ideas and work towards a common goal.

During the course of the conference, it became clear that Eduvision’s solution was indeed a relevant one. As a result of the numerous and diverse demands for the company’s solutions, Eduvision is now in the process of expanding into various medium to large-scale projects across the Continent. Eduvision is confident that its solution has reached the level of maturity and sophistication required to play a vital role in the success of these projects. Realising that each partner and customer is unique, the development team at Eduvision is now busy making the necessary preparations.

eLA not only provided Eduvision with a wide variety of potential customers, but also brought together potential partners. One novel advantage that Eduvision’s software solution offers is its ability to work on virtually any hardware platform. Some of the innovative hardware presented at eLA thus made the event all the more relevant. Eduvision is currently in the process of brokering working partnerships with several of these hardware providers in order to create a more effective overall solution.

Finally, the diversity and quality of this year’s workshops and roundtable discussions greatly helped Eduvision towards its goal of being a holistic and effective solution provider. Many issues, such as the need for effective monitoring and evaluation and the role of the teacher in ICT-based educational initiatives, have been incorporated into both Eduvision’s short and long-term concepts.

Eduvision is eagerly looking forward to being an active contributor at the next eLearning Africa.
