President Outlines Vision for African Education
Dakar, Senegal. The President of Senegal, Abdoulaye Wade, today outlined his vision for radical change in African education and criticised European governments for restricting access for African students. In a wide-ranging and controversial speech at 'eLearning Africa,' the continent's major conference on online education, the 85-year old President said that technology now allowed African students unlimited access to the best universities in the world. « At a time when Europe closes its doors, eLearning is the answer for African students, » he said. eLearning Africa Conference Shows How ICTs Empower Education for All in Africa
Using examples from 60 countries, the 4th eLearning Africa conference, Africa's largest event for learning technologies, will show how Information and Communication Technologies are helping African countries to reach the Millennium Goal of education for all. The eLearning Africa conference, which is to be held May 27th – 29th in Dakar, Senegal, will bring together ministers of education, senior government leaders, non-governmental organisations, school and university educators, developmental agencies and key business executives. Major Pan-African eLearning Network to Convene in Senegal in 2009
eLearning Africa continues to expand its network over the Continent. For the organisation of the conference 2009 in Senegal, eLearning Africa is cooperating with the Senegalese state IT agency ADIE (Agence de l’Informatique de l’Etat).
