Thierry Zomahoun

Founding Executive Director and currently President and CEO of African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), Thierry is a global development expert with a successful 22 year track record in educational and scientific programs administration, not-for-profit business startups, and growth and microenterprise development in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. . Under Thierry’s leadership, AIMS - Africa’s first and largest network of centers of excellence in mathematical sciences founded in 2003 - has won international acclaim for its scientific model for independent thinking, problem-solving and widely applicable mathematical solutions to development fields of greatest relevance to Africa and the rest of the world.

In 2013, Thierry founded the AIMS Next Einstein Forum (NEF), a global forum for science and technology, the first ever to take place on African soil. Through the NEF, AIMS sets to make of Africa the next hub for global science. The first NEF Global Gathering will take place in Dakar (Senegal) in March 2016.

Throughout his career, Thierry has held various executive roles in academia, consulting business, and international development. He founded several organizations and sits on different boards of directors. Thierry holds an MBA from McGill Desautels Faculty of Management (Canada), an MPhil in Development Studies from the University of Geneva (Switzerland) and a Master’s Degree from the National University of Benin (West Africa). He is currently pursuing his doctoral studies in Political Science at the University of Guelph (Canada).
